# Turn on two-factor authentication

> Two-factor authentication protects your account: as well as your password, a six-digit code is requested when you sign in.

## Steps

1. Open **Settings**, **My account** tab, **Account security** section.
2. Click **Turn on two-factor authentication**. Confirm your password, then click **Turn on**.
3. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, 1Password…).
4. On the same screen, save your backup codes somewhere safe: you will need them if you lose your phone, and they are not shown again.
5. Enter the code shown by the app, then click **Confirm**.

**Good to know** It is required for owners, administrators and supervisors. A **Generate new codes** button replaces your backup codes at any time, after your password: the old ones stop working. A passkey (Face ID, Touch ID) saves you typing the code at each sign-in.
