# WhatsApp orders for your restaurant, without missing one

> WYP.chat takes your restaurant’s WhatsApp orders on one number shared by the whole team: the catalogue basket becomes an order to approve, the summary goes out in the customer’s language and the payment link is one button away. Free plan, then €29 per month excl. VAT, with unlimited users.

**Your whole team, no seats to count.** With 5 people, the Team plan costs €99 a month excl. VAT, the same as with one. You pay Meta directly for its messages, with no markup.

## What your restaurant does with WYP.chat

### Basket orders

The customer picks from your [WhatsApp catalogue](https://wyp.chat/en/glossary#catalogue) and sends the basket. The order appears in the conversation, “to approve”, at the basket’s prices.

### A regular’s written order

No basket? The AI agent reads the customer’s latest messages and drafts the lines. You always check before confirming.

### Paid before it’s cooked

The “Pay” button goes out with the order number and amount. The link is your bank’s or your payment provider’s.

### A table for a group

The request is assigned to the front-of-house manager, who answers with a quick reply. An internal note keeps the details.

## Ordering on WhatsApp: the customer’s journey

Your menu becomes a WhatsApp catalogue linked to your number. Customers order without leaving the chat, and your team follows each order through to payment.

It works without a catalogue too: the customer writes their order and the AI agent reads it from their latest messages (voice notes as well, when the AI agent is switched on to transcribe them). Doubtful quantities and unknown dishes are flagged.

1. **The customer opens your menu**: They browse the catalogue from your profile, or from the product cards you send them, grouped by section: starters, mains, desserts.
2. **They send their basket**: WYP.chat creates an order “to approve” at the basket’s prices, shown in the conversation and in the Orders tab.
3. **You confirm**: Date, a note (“no onions”), a discount if needed: the summary, in the customer’s language, is drafted in your reply.
4. **They pay by link**: One click sends the “Pay” button with the amount. The customer pays with your provider, never in the chat.
5. **The kitchen gets cooking**: The Production view adds up quantities by product and by day, with a CSV export.

## WhatsApp Business app or WYP.chat during the rush?

The app is enough while one person replies. During service, several people need to see the same orders without tripping over each other. You can keep the app on the same number.

| Need | WhatsApp Business app | WYP.chat |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Several people replying during service | One main phone and up to 4 linked devices | Unlimited users, on computer and phone |
| Receiving a basket | A message to copy out by hand | An order to approve, at the basket’s prices |
| A written order | Typed in again | Read by the AI agent, checked by the team |
| Taking payment before cooking | Link pasted by hand, amount typed again | “Pay” button with the order number and amount |
| Knowing who handles what | No assignment | One owner per conversation, internal notes |
| Knowing what to prepare | Counting through the chats | Production by product and by day, CSV export |
| Response time | Not tracked | Tracked, with an alert (Team and Pro plans) |

## Paid before it’s cooked: the payment link

WYP.chat takes no payments and no commission on your sales. You paste the payment link from your bank or payment provider, once for the whole workspace or for a specific order, and the team sends it in one click from the order.

- **The “Pay” button**: The customer receives, in their language: “Order no. 41: €38.50. You can pay online with the button below.”
- **One link per order if needed**: An order’s own link takes priority over the workspace’s: handy when your provider creates a link for the exact amount.
- **Never a card number in the chat**: WhatsApp’s policy forbids asking for a full card number or bank account number in the conversation. The link settles it.
- **Check payment with your provider**: WYP.chat does not receive the payment confirmation: check your payment tool before you start cooking.

## Table bookings and groups

A booking request arrives like any message: it has an owner, a quick reply and a history. WYP.chat does not replace your booking system or your floor plan.

[Teamwork in WYP.chat](https://wyp.chat/en/features/teamwork)

- **One owner per request**: The conversation is assigned to the front-of-house manager. An internal note passes on details (allergy, birthday) that the customer never sees.
- **Quick replies**: Type / to insert your opening hours, your group terms or the link to your booking system.
- **Groups and private hire**: Offer a available slot from your Google Calendar to plan the menu with the customer: the meeting is created with a Google Meet link.
- **Nothing left unanswered**: On the Team and Pro plans, response time is tracked, and an alert fires when a request waits too long.

## Bringing regulars back, with their consent

Weekly menu, themed evening, new menu: WhatsApp requires the customer’s consent before any message you send on your own initiative, and a marketing message always goes out as a template approved by Meta.

[WhatsApp campaigns](https://wyp.chat/en/features/whatsapp-campaigns)

- **Consent on record**: Each contact keeps the history of their consent, with date and source. You only write to people who said yes.
- **Opt-outs respected**: A written STOP, or a marketing opt-out made within WhatsApp, unsubscribes the contact across the workspace.
- **Cost estimated before sending**: In the UK, Meta charges €0.0526 per marketing message (rates of 1 October 2026). WYP.chat works out the total before each campaign.
- **Nothing about alcohol**: No promotions for wine, beer or cocktails: WhatsApp’s policy forbids it.

Rules to know

## Alcohol and allergens: what WhatsApp and the law require

The WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy forbids using WhatsApp to buy, sell or promote alcohol and tobacco, whatever licences you hold. Its exceptions for messages about alcohol apply only to a list of countries that does not include the UK, France or Spain (list checked on 10 October 2026).

- **Catalogue**: No wine, beer or cocktails in your WhatsApp catalogue. Meta reviews every item and rejects products banned by its commerce policies.
- **Orders and messages**: Alcoholic drinks stay out of orders taken on WhatsApp and out of your messages.
- **Allergens**: In the EU, Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 requires allergens to be given before the purchase is concluded for food sold at a distance, even when it is not prepacked (Articles 14 and 44). Put them in each item’s description, or send them before confirming, and check your local rules.

## What a restaurant’s messages cost

Your customers’ messages are free. So are your free-form replies within 24 hours of their last message, up to 1,000 per month per number; beyond that, Meta charges them at the utility rate of the customer’s country.

[WhatsApp message pricing](https://wyp.chat/en/guides/whatsapp-message-pricing)

- **Example**: 300 orders a month, 3 replies each (summary, payment link, “ready”): 900 replies within the [24-hour window](https://wyp.chat/en/glossary#fenetre-24h). Cost from Meta: €0.
- **Above the free allowance**: €0.0182 per reply in the UK (utility rate of 1 October 2026).
- **More than 24 hours after the last message**: The message goes out as a template approved by Meta, charged by its category.
- **WYP.chat**: Free plan (50 conversations a month), then €29 per month excl. VAT. Messages charged by Meta are paid to Meta, at Meta’s price.

## Do you supply restaurants?

Wholesalers, distributors, bakeries and kitchens that supply the hospitality trade use the same tools to take orders from their business customers, counted in boxes, with production by delivery day.

[Wholesalers and distributors](https://wyp.chat/en/industries/wholesalers)

- **Proposals**: The customer accepts with one button, and the order confirms itself.
- **Payment**: On invoice, as today, or by link.

## Get started in four steps

Your number stays the same, and the WhatsApp Business app can stay on the restaurant’s phone.

1. **Create your workspace**: Email address and restaurant name, no card needed.
2. **Connect your WhatsApp number**: With your Meta account. While Meta reviews WYP.chat, our team connects it with you.
3. **Import your menu**: Orders, Products tab: a CSV file, then the file ready for the Meta catalogue, to upload in Commerce Manager.
4. **Invite the team**: Front of house, kitchen, delivery: unlimited users, each with their own login.

## Questions from restaurants

### How do customers order on WhatsApp?

The customer opens the catalogue on your WhatsApp profile, adds dishes to the basket and sends it. They can also write their order. With WYP.chat, the basket becomes an order to approve, and a written message becomes an order drafted by the AI agent and checked by your team.

### Which app should a restaurant use to take WhatsApp orders?

The WhatsApp Business app is enough while one person replies, on one main phone and up to 4 linked devices. Once several people take orders, WYP.chat shares the number between them, with orders, payment by link and production. WYP.chat does not replace your till.

### How much does WhatsApp Business cost a restaurant?

The app is free. With WYP.chat: free plan (50 conversations a month), then €29 per month excl. VAT. From Meta, your replies within 24 hours are free up to 1,000 per month per number; a marketing message costs €0.0526 in the UK.

### What are the drawbacks of WhatsApp Business?

The app runs on one main phone and 4 linked devices, with no conversation assignment and no order tracking. The catalogue refuses alcohol, and Meta reviews every item. And a free-form reply is only possible within 24 hours of the customer’s last message.

### Can I sell wine on WhatsApp?

No. The WhatsApp Business policy forbids buying, selling or promoting alcohol on WhatsApp, whatever licences you hold, and the UK is not on the list of exceptions. Keep wine out of your catalogue, orders and campaigns.

### Can customers pay inside WhatsApp?

Not in the conversation. You send a “Pay” button that opens your bank’s or provider’s link. Never ask for a card number in the chat: WhatsApp’s policy forbids it.
