Delete contacts

Updated on 2 min read

You can delete one contact, a selection, or every contact in the workspace. Only the owner and admins can do it. Deleting is permanent: it also covers erasure requests (GDPR).

Steps

  1. For one contact, open their record in Contacts and click Delete contact at the bottom of the record. The confirmation tells you how many conversations go with them.
  2. For several contacts, tick them in the list, then click Delete. The header checkbox ticks the contacts shown.
  3. To go beyond the page, tick the header checkbox, then click Select all … contacts matching the filters. Without a filter, the link becomes Select all … contacts in this workspace. The selection follows your filters and your search. A selection made by hand holds 1,000 contacts at most.
  4. To erase everything, open the … menu next to Import and choose Delete all contacts. Type the number shown to confirm.
  5. Before you confirm, read the summary: number of contacts, and those with conversations. Tick Include contacts that have conversations only if their conversations should go too. Otherwise they are left out.

Undo an import

An import made by mistake, from Google Contacts for example? Open the … menu, choose Recent imports (the last 20), then click Undo this import. Only the contacts created by that import, with no conversation and no linked record, are deleted. Contacts you already had, and that the import only updated, are never touched.

Refusals are kept

A contact who wrote STOP, turned off your offers in WhatsApp or was blocked keeps that refusal after deletion. WYP.chat only keeps a fingerprint, with no readable name or number. If they are imported again or created by hand, their record gets their STOP and their block back. A campaign always leaves them out, even if their record comes back with a new message, unless they signed up again themselves since then (START or entry point).
