What you pay Meta on WhatsApp

Updated on 3 min read

You pay Meta directly, with your own card, for the WhatsApp messages Meta charges for: mainly templates, and your replies beyond 1,000 per month per number. Your WYP.chat subscription does not include these charges, and WYP.chat credits do not pay Meta.

Who pays, and how

  • Meta bills your business’s WhatsApp Business account, using the payment method saved in Meta’s Billing Hub. WYP.chat neither sees nor handles this payment.
  • With no payment method at Meta, templates are not sent. Once your 1,000 free replies for the month are used up, your replies are no longer delivered to the customer.
  • Meta charges for each delivered message (since 1 July 2025), no longer per conversation. A message sent but not delivered is not charged.

What is free

  • Incoming messages: always.
  • Your replies within 24 hours of the customer’s last message, up to 1,000 per month per number. The counter resets on the 1st of the month, with no carry-over. Beyond that, Meta charges each reply at the service rate for the customer’s country.
  • All your messages after a “Click to WhatsApp” ad, templates included: when you reply to a customer who came from the ad, Meta opens a free window that lasts up to 7 days.
  • Messages sent from the WhatsApp Business app on your phone, if you keep it alongside WYP.chat (see Keep the WhatsApp Business app with WYP.chat).

What is charged

  • Meta-approved templates, by category: Marketing (offers, sales follow-ups, campaigns), Utility (order confirmations, appointment reminders), Authentication (one-time codes). Since 1 October 2026, a utility template is charged even when sent within 24 hours.
  • Your replies beyond 1,000 per month per number.
  • Replies from Meta’s own AI agent (Meta Business Agent), if you switch it on at Meta: a separate category since 1 July 2026, charged by the tokens used, about 4 to 5 US cents per message according to Meta. Replies from WYP.chat’s AI agent are ordinary replies, counted within the month’s 1,000 free ones.

Rates in the UK, France and Spain

Price per delivered message, in euros excluding VAT, Meta’s rate card in force since 1 October 2026, checked on 12 October 2026 and again on 18 October 2026 on Meta’s official calculator:

  • Customer in the UK: marketing €0.0526, utility €0.0182, authentication €0.0182, reply beyond 1,000: €0.0182.
  • Customer in France: marketing €0.0712, utility €0.0248, authentication €0.0248, reply beyond 1,000: €0.0248.
  • Customer in Spain: marketing €0.0585, utility €0.0166, authentication €0.0166, reply beyond 1,000: €0.0166.

The price depends on the customer’s country (their number’s country code), not on where your business is. Meta only changes its rates on 1 January, April, July or October.

Three examples

  • A tradesperson in the UK: 300 replies in the month and 40 appointment reminders. The replies stay free; the reminders cost 40 × €0.0182 = €0.73.
  • A shop in the UK: 600 replies and a sale campaign to 500 customers. The campaign costs 500 × €0.0526 = €26.30.
  • An SME in the UK: 2,500 replies on one number and 1,000 order confirmations. 1,500 charged replies (€27.30) and 1,000 confirmations (€18.20): €45.50.

Before each campaign, WYP.chat shows its estimated Meta cost.

Follow the counter

  1. Under the reply box of a WhatsApp conversation, a line shows the free replies left this month on that number.
  2. In Channels, the Free replies line of each number gives the month’s detail.
  3. A banner warns you when few are left, or when they are used up with no payment method.
